Overview
Christmas Island (ISO Code: CX) is located in the eastern Indian Ocean south of Indonesia and geographically belongs to Southeast Asia. Politically, it is an external territory of Australia directly administered by the Australian government. The climate is tropical with high temperatures, high humidity, and a pronounced rainy season. Economically, the island is small in structure, with phosphate mining historically playing a central role and today services and government activities dominating.
