WAW Airport (Warsaw Chopin Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Roughly 137,000 tonnes of cargo and mail passed through Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW/EPWA) in 2025, around 15% more than the year before, with a single-month peak of 12,440 tonnes in July. Most of that volume travels as belly cargo on passenger aircraft, driven above all by LOT Polish Airlines' long-haul network to North America and Asia; dedicated freighter services play a smaller part here than at Katowice, Poland's cargo-focused airport. Handling is shared between several agents, including Welcome Airport Services, which opened a new cargo facility on the field, and LS Airport Services at the LS Cargo Terminal, while Kales acts as a sales agent on site. Chopin lies in the Okęcie district about eight kilometres southwest of the city centre — convenient for city deliveries, less so for trucks crossing built-up areas. Customs follows the EU Union Customs Code, with third-country goods cleared on site by Poland's National Revenue Administration (KAS) and intra-EU shipments moving without formalities. Oversized or charter consignments usually route via Katowice-Pyrzowice (KTW, some 290 road kilometres), and Leipzig/Halle (LEJ) is within an overnight truck run for express traffic. Looking ahead, the planned CPK mega-airport between Warsaw and Łódź is intended to add substantial national freight capacity; until then Chopin's urban site limits physical expansion.
