Despite the runway and the 'air base' label, Sheik Isa (OBBS) carries no commercial freight: it is a Royal Bahraini Air Force installation near Sitrah in southern Bahrain that has also hosted US forces. There are no scheduled airlines and no cargo handlers on site, so the field plays no part in civilian logistics. Air freight for Bahrain is processed about 30 km north at Bahrain International Airport (BAH), home to DHL's regional hub, Gulf Air's Falcon Cargo and the Bahrain Logistics Zone free zone. Shipments destined for the island's south are trucked from BAH over Bahrain's compact, well-paved road network.
