PLS Airport (Providenciales International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

American Airlines, Delta, United, JetBlue, Air Canada and British Airways anchor the schedule at Providenciales International Airport (PLS/MBPV), the sole international gateway to the Turks and Caicos Islands, which recorded 734,308 air arrivals in 2024, up 10.7 percent year on year. The traffic mix is overwhelmingly leisure, as the islands' tourism economy fills inbound seats from North America and the United Kingdom. Air cargo is modest and express-driven, handled mainly by the integrators FedEx, UPS and DHL, alongside belly freight – perishables, pharmaceuticals and high-value resort supplies – carried in the holds of passenger jets; there is no dedicated freight terminal or scheduled freighter operation. Heavy and containerised goods bypass the airport entirely, moving instead through the Providenciales Cargo Port, served by Tropical Shipping and SEACOR. Customs clearance is administered by the local TCI Customs department, and no free-trade zone exists on site. A terminal redevelopment valued at more than US$300 million is being procured under a public-private partnership, with interim congestion-relief works to the arrivals hall running through 2025 and 2026. Runway length is roughly 2,800 metres, sufficient for narrow-body jets but limiting for large freighters. For freight forwarders, PLS suits time-critical air-express consignments, while project loads and bulk supplies are consolidated via Miami (MIA) or Nassau (NAS) and forwarded by sea.
