About This Airport
In Krustpils parish on the north-eastern edge of Jēkabpils, in Latvia's Sēlija region, a disused Soviet-era military airfield survives with roughly 2,000 metres of what was once a 2,500 by 40 metre runway. Sometimes listed as EVKA, the site has no terminal, no handling agent, no customs post and no cargo facilities, and sees only occasional general-aviation and event traffic rather than regular flights. Commercial consignments cannot be accepted or cleared here at all. Air freight for eastern Latvia therefore runs through Riga International (RIX) about 140 km to the west, the country's only substantial cargo gateway, with Kaunas (KUN) in Lithuania as the southern alternative. The location does matter for a different reason: because the surviving runway sits at a rail and road junction, Jēkabpils has been named since 2024 in plans for a new international military base spanning the Aizkraukle and Jēkabpils municipalities, and the first construction phase of the National Guard battalion base there was completed in 2024. None of that implies civil or freight use.
