North of Riga, in the Aloja area of Latvia, a small grass strip serves gliding, microlight and recreational flying, with no scheduled or freight operations. With no cargo warehouse, customs office or ground handling, there is no basis for commercial air freight here. Shipments from northern Latvia are handled at Riga (RIX) roughly 100 kilometres to the south, the Baltic region's main air cargo location and the point of EU customs clearance.
