IRD Airport (Ishurdi Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) alone decides the future of Ishurdi Airport (IATA: IRD, ICAO: VGIS), and as of 2026 the field in Natore District still has no scheduled flights of any kind. Biman Bangladesh served it until 1996; United Airways revived the Dhaka link in November 2013 but withdrew by mid-2014. CAAB has since studied a refurbishment, with government statements in 2025 pointing to roughly 2030 for a reopening to domestic passenger and cargo traffic, plus a runway extension of about 500 metres to accommodate types such as the ATR 72-600. The drivers sit next door: the Ishwardi Export Processing Zone and the Rooppur nuclear power plant construction site, which employs more than 5,000 Russian specialists. Until services return, garment and project consignments travel by truck some 200 road kilometres to Hazrat Shahjalal International in Dhaka (DAC), where customs clearance takes place. The nearest operating airport is Shah Makhdum in Rajshahi (RJH), about 70 kilometres west. Forwarders should treat IRD as a place name rather than an air cargo station.
