BDT Airport (Gbadolite Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Few airports embody contrast as sharply as Gbadolite (IATA: BDT, ICAO: FZFD): a 3,200-metre asphalt runway, laid to receive wide-body charter jets from Europe for Mobutu Sese Seko's lavish home town, now sees only a handful of regional services. The field serves the capital of Nord-Ubangi province in the far north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Air Congo — the national carrier launched in 2024 as successor to Congo Airways in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines — lists Gbadolite among its destinations. Cargo capability is effectively nil: there is no freight terminal, no customs post for goods traffic and no cold chain, so consignments for Nord-Ubangi travel as belly loads on passenger flights or over the region's poor roads. The Ubangi river and the border with the Central African Republic lie just to the north but play no part in air freight here. Genuine volumes are consolidated at Kinshasa-N'djili (FIH), with Gemena (GMA) as the nearest regional fallback. For forwarders, BDT is a feeder point, memorable mainly for its oversized, fading runway.
