COV Airport (Çukurova International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

A Turkish Cargo freight terminal opened at Çukurova International Airport (COV/LTDB) near Tarsus in May 2025, giving the Adana-Mersin region its own air cargo facility for the first time. The building offers around 11,000 m² of storage and goods acceptance space with a stated annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes and a modular design allowing later expansion; the operator describes it as Turkey's second-largest air cargo terminal. Through the Turkish Cargo network, consignments reach roughly 200 destinations in about 112 countries, generally transiting Istanbul. Handled commodities include veterinary vaccines, seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables from the fertile Çukurova plain, cut flowers, textiles and marine spare parts, so temperature-controlled and time-critical traffic is central to the operation. The airport replaced the older inner-city Adana Şakirpaşa airport and sits between Adana and Mersin, each around 30 to 45 minutes away by motorway. The Mediterranean port of Mersin nearby is the largest container terminal on Turkey's southern coast, making genuine sea-air combinations practical: air freight for urgent part-shipments, ocean freight for volume. Customs follows Turkish law, and the EU-Turkey customs union with its A.TR movement certificate applies to most industrial goods, while agricultural and textile products are governed by separate arrangements. For larger freighter volumes or charters, Istanbul (IST) and Ankara Esenboğa (ESB) remain the practical alternatives.
