AYT Airport (Antalya International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Few airports in Europe are as seasonal as Antalya (IATA: AYT, ICAO: LTAI): in summer, charter waves from across Europe crowd the aprons of the Turkish Riviera's gateway, while winter traffic drops to a fraction – a pattern that directly shapes available bellyhold capacity. With around 38 million passengers a year, AYT ranks among the continent's ten busiest airports, driven almost entirely by beach tourism with Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom as the strongest source markets. The airport is run by a Fraport-TAV joint venture whose concession runs to 2051; Fraport has been involved here since 1999. On the cargo side, the province's greenhouse belt gives the location a genuine niche: cut flowers and early vegetables from Turkey's main horticulture region are exported directly via a dedicated cargo terminal with cooling facilities. Beyond perishables, however, volumes stay modest – regional industrial exports mostly travel by truck to the Istanbul airports or ship through the seaport of Antalya. The airport sits some 13 kilometres north-east of the city centre on the D400 coastal highway, with a tram line connecting it to town. For forwarders, AYT is a perishables and express station first, and a capacity opportunity whenever the summer schedule is in full swing.
