RML Airport (Colombo Ratmalana Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

An airport code without a freight function: Colombo Ratmalana (IATA: RML, ICAO: VCCC), now signposted as Colombo International Airport Ratmalana, sits in the southern suburbs of the Sri Lankan capital and is cleared for selected regional services after its upgrade. Traffic remains thin — business aviation, flight schools, domestic hops and charters rather than a dependable scheduled timetable. No cargo terminal, routine freighter handling or dedicated air-freight customs post is documented at RML. Sri Lanka's import and export air cargo is concentrated at Bandaranaike International (CMB) at Katunayake, roughly 30 km north, where SriLankan Cargo operates the freight terminal; Mattala Rajapaksa (HRI) in the south is a rarely used fallback. By road, Ratmalana sits on the A2 towards central Colombo, while trucking to CMB uses the E03 Colombo–Katunayake expressway. The Port of Colombo, one of South Asia's largest transhipment hubs, lies a few kilometres north and carries most of what does not need to fly. Forwarders should treat Ratmalana as a city and general-aviation field, not a freight point.
