CXR Airport (Cam Ranh International Airport / Cam Ranh Air Base) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Around 4.7 million passengers used Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR/VVCR) in 2025, roughly 70 per cent of pre-pandemic levels and enough to keep it Vietnam's fourth-busiest airport, with some 17 new international carriers added since 2024 including Scoot and Thai VietJet Air. The airport sits on the south-central coast serving Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa province and shares its site with the Cam Ranh military air base, while the international passenger terminal is run by a dedicated terminal company. Freight moves predominantly as belly cargo on those passenger services; a large dedicated cargo terminal does not yet exist, though Vietnam's civil aviation authority CAAV has earmarked a 12.1-hectare plot for one, which would materially change the airport's freight profile. Exports are dominated by perishables from the surrounding province — fish, tuna and lobster from Khanh Hoa's aquaculture and coastal fisheries — making cold-chain capacity the decisive factor rather than raw floor space. For larger volumes and freighter services, Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) remains southern Vietnam's principal cargo gateway, with Da Nang (DAD) covering the northern part of the coastal corridor. Surface connections run on National Highway 1 and the newly opened sections of the North-South Expressway, which have cut trucking times towards Ho Chi Minh City, while the port of Cam Ranh and the deep-water bay of Van Phong handle ocean freight.
