KDH Airport (Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport / Kandahar Airfield) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Ground and cargo handling at Ahmad Shah Baba International (KDH/OAKN) is run by GAAC Solutions, a UAE-based operator tasked with restoring commercial services at Kandahar. Scheduled flying resumed on 16 November 2023, but confirmed operations remain thin — essentially domestic services to Kabul (KBL), some 460 kilometres away, flown by Ariana Afghan Airlines and Kam Air, with only sporadic Gulf links. The airport retains two runways from its NATO-era build-out, a newer passenger terminal and a cargo facility; available freight capacity nevertheless fluctuates and, as the Logistics Cluster notes, space should be booked well in advance. Kandahar is the collection point for the south's fresh produce — pomegranates, grapes and dried fruit above all — whose air exports historically moved through freight corridors to India and the Gulf. Afghan customs and import practice changes frequently, so clearance must be confirmed with a forwarder before shipping. Kabul Hamid Karzai International (KBL) is the practical alternative by air, while the road route via Chaman/Spin Boldak to Karachi links the region to sea freight.
