TMR Airport (Aguenar – Hadj Bey Akhamok Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Deep in the Algerian Sahara, roughly 1,900 road kilometres south of Algiers, Aguenar – Hadj Bey Akhamok (TMR/DAAT) serves Tamanrasset and the Hoggar massif. Its main runway of 3,600 metres at 1,377 metres elevation could physically accept widebody freighters, yet no dedicated cargo terminal or scheduled freighter service is confirmed. The airport is operated around the clock by the state agency EGSA Alger, with Air Algérie as the dominant carrier; the last published figures, dating from 2010, show 70,515 passengers and 2,402 aircraft movements. Goods move as belly cargo on scheduled services, supplemented by occasional charter and relief flights into the Hoggar and towards the Sahel. Overland, the Trans-Sahara highway RN1 runs south through In Guezzam towards Niger, an increasingly used trade corridor but one measured in days rather than hours. For international air freight, Algiers Houari Boumediene (ALG) remains Algeria's principal gateway, with Hassi Messaoud – Oued Irara (HME) as an oilfield-logistics alternative, and customs arrangements for commercial imports should be settled with a forwarder in advance given the limited local capacity.
