MSC Air Cargo is the air freight arm of the MSC Group (Mediterranean Shipping Company) and has complemented the group's container and inland network with its own freighter capacity since late 2022. The brand is steered commercially from Geneva, where the MSC Group is headquartered. Operationally it rests on two air operator certificates: the group's own AOC is held by the Italian MSC Air S.p.A., registered at Corso Sempione 32/A, 20154 Milan and listed by the Italian civil aviation authority ENAC as IT.AOC.0190 (as of 25 March 2026). It emerged from AlisCargo Airlines S.p.A., in which MSC took a majority stake in 2023 and full ownership in 2024. A further four Boeing 777-200F are flown by Atlas Air under an ACMI agreement for MSC. This has direct consequences for documentation: depending on the operating carrier, shipments move under two master air waybill prefixes. MSC Air S.p.A. uses IATA designator CP and AWB prefix 233, while the rotations flown by Atlas Air run under 5Y and prefix 369. The carrier states both explicitly in its Supplementary Terms & Conditions. The fleet comprises seven Boeing 777-200F (as of September 2026), three of them Italian-registered with MSC Air and four with Atlas Air. Liège (LGG) has been the European hub from the outset, with operations starting on 3 December 2022. As the Italian company was built up, Milan Malpensa (MXP) was added as a second European gateway; a scheduled freighter service to Shanghai Pudong has operated from there since 3 March 2026. The network links Europe with North America, Latin America and Asia. Of particular relevance to forwarders are the special products: MSC Air Cargo holds IATA CEIV Pharma and IATA CEIV Fresh certification and, alongside pharmaceuticals and perishables, runs dedicated programmes for aerospace items such as engines and helicopters as well as for vehicles. Bookings are prepaid only; the carrier does not accept charges collect.
