Unlike handling general cargo, dangerous cargo handling requires specialized procedures and trained personnel. Everyone involved in loading, stowing, storing, transporting, or unloading hazardous goods must hold formal certification. Packaging, labeling, documentation, and stowage planning must comply with international standards (IMDG, IATA, ADR, RID). Handling facilities must have appropriate infrastructure—ventilation, temperature control, emergency equipment—and undergo regular inspections. Non-compliance results in fines, operational suspension, or criminal sanctions.
