A claims process is the structured procedure for filing and settling compensation claims against transport companies, freight forwarders, or logistics service providers for cargo damage, loss, or delay. In shipping practice, a claim typically arises from damage, theft, moisture intrusion, or late delivery. The shipper or consignee must document damages (photographs, inspection reports), file a notice of claim within the contractual deadline, and the insurer or carrier either accepts or disputes liability. Thereafter, the loss is assessed and either a settlement is paid or the claim is denied. Strict adherence to notification deadlines and documentation requirements is essential for success.
