Lufthansa Cargo AG is the cargo airline of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, headquartered in the Lufthansa Cargo Center at Frankfurt Airport. It was founded on 30 November 1994 as a wholly owned group subsidiary and began operations in January 1995. Germany's Luftfahrt-Bundesamt lists it as a licensed German air carrier, and it is entered in the commercial register of the Frankfurt am Main local court under HRB 90085. Lufthansa Cargo uses the IATA designator LH and the ICAO code GEC; its radiotelephony callsign is LUFTHANSACARGO. Air waybills carry the AWB prefix 020, so every eleven-digit shipment number begins with 020. The business model combines three sources of capacity: its own freighters, comprising 18 Boeing 777F for long-haul routes, six of which are operated by the joint venture AeroLogic, plus four Airbus A321F for medium-haul services; belly capacity on more than 7,000 flights per week aboard passenger aircraft of Lufthansa Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, ITA Airways and SunExpress; and around 2,150 Road Feeder Service trucks across Europe and North America whose legs are integrated into the regular flight schedule. The network covers more than 350 destinations in around 100 countries, and through the five cargo hubs of Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, Vienna and Rome an average of some 2,500 tonnes of freight moves per day. Freighter services from Munich have operated since 6 July 2024. For temperature-sensitive traffic the company holds IATA CEIV Pharma certification, extended in May 2026 to IATA's corporate approach.
