Resumen
Ukraine (UA) is an Eastern European agricultural, industrial and transit country whose logistics have been shaped by war since Russia's 2022 invasion. On the customs side it holds a DCFTA with the EU (upgraded since 29 October 2025) and a free trade agreement with EFTA (since 2012); clearance is electronic via the State Customs Service, and since 1 October 2022 Ukraine uses the EU Common Transit procedure (NCTS). Import VAT is 20 percent, with a reduced 7 percent rate on certain pharmaceutical and medical products. The main gateways are the Black Sea ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi plus the Danube ports of Izmail and Reni; civil airspace is closed, so air cargo routes via neighbouring EU countries. Overland, the EU Solidarity Lanes through Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania link the country to the EU; Ukrzaliznytsia's 1520 mm broad-gauge network requires a break of gauge at the western border. Main exports are grain, oilseeds and sunflower oil plus iron and steel; imports are dominated by machinery, vehicles and petroleum products. Key partners include Poland, Romania, Türkiye, China and Germany.

(Stand 2026-07-22)

Yes. Ukraine has a DCFTA with the EU, whose upgraded version entered into force on 29 October 2025. A free trade agreement with EFTA, and thus Switzerland, has been in force since 2012; a modernised version was signed in 2025.
Ukrzaliznytsia runs a broad-gauge network (1520 mm). A break of gauge is required at the EU border with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. A large share of foreign trade runs through these Solidarity Lanes rail corridors.
Ukraine itself is not under international sanctions. It applies extensive sanctions of its own against Russia and Belarus; EU and US sanctions on Russia affect routing and compliance.
