Resumen
Hungary (HU) is a landlocked country in Central Europe and, as an EU, customs-union and Schengen member, a transit and manufacturing hub (automotive/battery) between Western and Eastern Europe. Customs clearance runs electronically through the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) under the Union Customs Code, exports via AES; import VAT (ÁFA) is 27 percent — the highest rate in the EU (reduced 18/5). Key gateways are Budapest cargo airport (BUD), increasingly Debrecen (DEB), the Danube ports of Csepel, Baja and Győr-Gönyű, and the access seaports Rijeka, Koper, Constanța and Trieste. Main corridors are the M1 towards Vienna, the M5 towards Serbia and the M0 ring around Budapest, plus the Rhine-Danube and Orient/East-Med rail freight corridors. Note the weekend and holiday driving bans for trucks over 7.5 t and the distance-based HU-GO toll from 3.5 t. Main exports are vehicles and parts, machinery, electronics and batteries; top partners are Germany, Romania and Slovakia.
