Italian freight traffic is facing multiple strikes in quick succession. Calabria will start: The transport association Fedralog Calabria has announced a 120-hour stoppage in commercial road freight transport for its member companies. It is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 00:01 and end on Tuesday, October 13, at 24:00.
The protest is directed, among other things, against high operating costs and fuel prices. Important: This is not a complete standstill of all trucks in Italy. Only participating companies in Calabria are affected. Nevertheless, a five-day shutdown can quickly lead to backlogs in pickups, deliveries, and connection services.
Directly following is the rail strike at SBB Cargo Italia. The union ORSA Ferrovie has called the company's personnel nationwide to strike from Tuesday, October 13, 06:00 to Wednesday, October 14, 05:59. Wagons and trains may be delayed in provision, rerouted, or cancelled entirely.
On October 14, a regional general strike will occur in Tuscany. For regular rail traffic, the official register indicates the window from 09:01 to 17:00. However, rail freight transport is affected for the entire work shift. Air traffic is explicitly exempted.
For routes to Southern Italy, the chain is critical. A truck that is not picked up in Calabria may miss the ferry or rail slot. After the stoppage ends, many shipments will then arrive simultaneously. North-South connections can also be disrupted due to the SBB Cargo strike and the Tuscany action.
The strikes are announced and registered in the official Italian registry. Short-notice cancellations or changes are still possible. Therefore, dispatchers should confirm again with the freight carrier, terminal, and rail operator before departure.
