About This Seaport
The Port of Vancouver USA (US VAN) — not the Canadian Vancouver — handled 79,000 Subaru vehicles and 5.9 million tons of grain in 2024 from its position on the Columbia River in Washington State, the river's furthest-inland deep-water port about 106 miles from the Pacific. It specialises in bulk, breakbulk and project cargo rather than containers: across five marine terminals and 13 berths it moves export grain (United Grain's terminal, the largest grain export facility on the US West Coast), steel slabs, minerals, fertilisers and wind-energy components. On the roll-on/roll-off side it is the West Coast's largest importer of Subaru vehicles. Some of the largest mobile harbour cranes in North America handle high, wide and heavy cargo here. BNSF and Union Pacific rail plus Interstate 5 connect the port inland. Containerised freight is handled at Seattle and Tacoma, while Kalama and Longview offer nearby bulk alternatives on the same river.
