IT SVN Port (Savona) – Terminals, Draft, Agents

About This Seaport

APM Terminals operates Vado Gateway, Italy's first semi-automated deep-sea container terminal, which helped Savona-Vado (IT SVN) handle roughly 590,000 TEU and close to 16 million tonnes of cargo in 2025 — up about 58% on 2024. The terminal combines a fully automated gate with an automated stacking yard and is designed for around 900,000 TEU at full build-out. Alongside it, the Reefer Terminal adds about 250,000 TEU of capacity, 500 reefer plugs and 310 IMO slots for temperature-controlled and dangerous goods, which is what draws importers of fruit, fish and pharmaceuticals to this port. Beyond boxes, the quays take general cargo, RoRo, dry and liquid bulk, steel products and project cargo, while Savona itself serves as a cruise homeport for Costa. The 2025 container split ran roughly 37% import, 33% transshipment and 24% export, with rail carrying a rising share into northern Italy against a 40% intermodal target. The complex sits under the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority (Ports of Genoa), and customs clears through Italy's Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli; the combined Genoa and Savona-Vado system passed 3 million TEU for the first time in 2025 (2.99 million, +6.3%). For wider liner coverage or more frequent sailings, Genoa (about 45 km) and La Spezia (about 150 km) are the practical alternatives.
