About This Seaport
More a ferry and energy port than a box terminal, Puerto de Alcúdia ranks as Mallorca's second harbour after Palma. Its quays are dominated by RoRo and passenger ferries linking the island to Barcelona, Ciutadella on Menorca and Toulon in southern France. On the cargo side the traffic is bulk and energy: a coal berth long supplied the adjacent Es Murterar power station (coal now being phased out), alongside butane and propane imports at a dolphin berth and shipments of scrap and recyclables. Conventional container lines do not call here; that business runs through Palma. The port is managed by the Balearic Islands Port Authority, with road links into the island hinterland. For containerised imports, forwarders use Palma de Mallorca, or Barcelona and Valencia on the mainland.
