About This Seaport
A rusting hull, derelict tanks and rotting wharf piles are all that remain of Port Hobron, a whaling station on Sitkalidak Island in the Kodiak archipelago. Run by the Alaska Whaling Company from 1926 to 1937, it processed more than 2,300 whales before closing, and has handled no cargo since. There is no container, breakbulk or customs activity here. Goods for the region are shipped through the Port of Kodiak, about 77 km to the north-northeast.
