About This Seaport
Operated by the Orange County Navigation and Port District, the Port of Orange sits on the Sabine River about half a mile from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and 37 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, with 24-hour channel and dock access. Its cargo base is breakbulk and project work — forest products, iron and steel, dry bulk, bagged and baled goods, and project or military cargo — rather than container liner traffic. The Alabama Street Terminal and a federally co-funded Transmodal Marine Yard link ocean vessels, barges, rail and truck. Orange is also a long-standing shipbuilding centre, with yards such as Conrad Orange constructing and repairing tugs, barges and offshore platforms. Large-scale container, reefer or dangerous-goods services are not confirmed here. For containerised or high-volume cargo on the Sabine-Neches Waterway, Beaumont, Port Arthur and Houston are the larger gateways.
