About This Seaport
Operated by the Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority, this is the first U.S. port on the St. Lawrence Seaway and the northernmost in New York State. Its strength lies in project and breakbulk cargo: the port specialises in wind turbine components and heavy lifts, served by shoreside cranes rated from 50 to 220 tonnes. Dry bulk and agricultural commodities — zinc concentrate, wollastonite, road salt, cottonseed and distillers grains — move across berths backed by roughly 125,000 sq ft of warehousing and a dedicated bulk shed. Because the Seaway freezes, navigation is seasonal, broadly spring through late autumn. Road and rail links carry cargo into the northeastern United States and neighbouring Canada. For year-round container traffic, Montreal or the Atlantic coast ports are the better choice.
