About This Seaport
From early May through July, the cargo dock at Naknek runs 24 hours a day to move Bristol Bay's salmon harvest to market. Operated as the Port of Bristol Bay, this facility on the Naknek River estuary is the largest commercial freight dock in the bay and a supply hub for southwestern Alaska, from Dutch Harbor to Bethel. Roughly 93 million pounds of processed salmon and about 1.5 million gallons of fuel cross the port each year, alongside general freight, equipment and provisions for remote communities. With a cargo pier depth near 1.8 metres, Naknek is a tidal, seasonal supply port rather than a container or liner gateway, and customs clearance for international cargo is not confirmed here. Shippers needing scheduled container services route through Dutch Harbor (Unalaska) or the Port of Anchorage.
