About This Seaport
Tankers riding low at the refinery jetties set the tone at Milazzo, an energy port on the north-east coast of Sicily. Its primary function is to serve the adjoining Raffineria di Milazzo — a 50/50 joint venture of Eni and Kuwait Petroleum Italia (Q8) — which refines around 10 million tonnes of crude a year, most of it delivered by tanker across two jetties and eight berths and shipped out again as products and LPG. Large crude carriers are handled via an offshore terminal. Milazzo is also the main ferry gateway to the Aeolian Islands — Lipari, Vulcano, Stromboli, Salina, Panarea, Alicudi and Filicudi — as well as mainland Naples, alongside some dry cargo, transhipment and bunkering. It does not handle container liner services; for containerised cargo in Sicily and southern Italy, Gioia Tauro, Catania and Palermo are the appropriate calls. Forwarders should treat Milazzo as an energy and ferry port rather than a container gateway.
