About This Seaport
Lon Shui Terminal is not a commercial cargo port but an offshore roadstead serving the Liuhua oil fields in the South China Sea. Operated within CNOOC's deepwater development in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, where water depths run around 300 metres, the site centres on floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units. The Liuhua 11-1/4-1 secondary development, on stream since 2024, added the cylindrical FPSO Haikui-1 – Asia's first – and the deepwater jacket platform Haiji-2, extending the field's life by some 30 years, with a second phase commissioned in late 2025. Crude oil is transferred from these units to tankers; there are no container, breakbulk or general-cargo facilities, and no landside terminals, customs posts or hinterland connections at this offshore location. Forwarders with containerised or conventional freight for Guangdong should route instead through Shenzhen (Yantian), Guangzhou (Nansha) or Hong Kong. The relevance of this point is confined to the oil and energy sector.
