About This Seaport
Rice, tapioca, sugar, animal feed and coal are the cargoes that define Ko Si Chang, Thailand's principal anchorage-based transhipment point. Lying about 28 nautical miles southeast of Bangkok off Si Racha in Chonburi, the island is a lighterage anchorage where bulk carriers discharge or top up their cargo by barge before or after calling Bangkok Port (Krung Thep). Anchorage areas A, D, F and G, plus a barge anchorage near Laem Wang, combine roughly 15 m of water depth with an approach channel near 23 m, accommodating large dry-bulk vessels. Onward cargo moves by river barge upstream to Bangkok or by road into the industrial Eastern Seaboard. Lighterage is carried out at anchorage under Thai customs permission. Ko Si Chang is not a container facility; for boxes, shippers use Laem Chabang and Bangkok Port instead.
