Singapore's container crown was built in large part on Keppel, one of the PSA terminals that turned the island into the world's leading transhipment hub. PSA Singapore set a record of 40.9 million TEU in 2024, with the city terminals of Keppel, Tanjong Pagar and Brani long carrying a large share. The core business here is sea-to-sea: boxes are relayed between mainline services for the Far East, Europe and the Indian subcontinent rather than simply serving local cargo. Deep water and dense liner connectivity make almost any container relation feasible, including reefer and dangerous-goods handling under Singapore customs.
