About This Seaport
Unlike Hawaii's deep-draft commercial harbours, Kaunakakai works as an open roadstead with a single long wharf and about 6.4 m alongside, yet it remains Molokai's principal cargo port. Young Brothers' interisland barges call several times a week from Honolulu, landing groceries, building materials, fuel and containerised trailers for the island. No ocean container terminal or international customs operates here; overseas shipments clear in Honolulu and feeder to Molokai by barge. The 286-foot barge Kalohi was purpose-built for smaller calls such as Kaunakakai and Kaumalapau. For forwarders, the port is the final leg of a Honolulu-hub supply chain.
