About This Seaport
Denmark's largest refinery sets the rhythm of Kalundborg (DK KAL), a port on the sheltered Kalundborgfjord about 100 km west of Copenhagen. Producing up to 5.5 million tonnes of liquid fuels a year - now run as Kalundborg Refinery under the Klesch Group, formerly Equinor/Statoil - the site drives the handling of crude oil and refined products. Alongside it, the Kalundborg Bulk Terminal is one of Denmark's leading grain export hubs, working an 11.6 m berth at load/discharge rates of up to 900 tonnes an hour. Imports include phosphate, coal, coke and feedstuffs, while exports cover oil products and grain. The port also offers tanker, ferry and ro-ro facilities, including the Kattegat link toward Aarhus. It handles no true container liner traffic - for that, Aarhus is Denmark's leading container port, complemented by Copenhagen-Malmö (CMP). In short, Kalundborg is an industrial, energy and dry-bulk port closely tied to the local process industry.
