About This Seaport
The cargo that matters at Studstrup is fuel for a power plant. The quay, set on the Kattegat just north of Aarhus, exists chiefly to supply the Studstrupværket combined-heat-and-power station, which Ørsted converted from coal to biomass. Today the main inbound flows are wood pellets and straw, fed from the berths to the plant's dosing tanks through a conveyor line roughly 650 metres long. With the last coal-fired unit closed in August 2024, the switch to biomass is largely complete, coal remaining only as a reserve fuel. There is effectively no third-party container, breakbulk or customs business here; this is a largely captive bulk berth serving a single industrial site. Hinterland access is by road around Aarhus, with no dedicated rail-freight or inland-waterway link at the quay itself. Forwarders with commercial shipments should look to the port of Aarhus a few kilometres south, or to Fredericia for bulk.
