About This Seaport
A lock gate 21.5 metres wide and a quay of nearly 3,000 metres define the working outer harbour of Husum on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast. Operated by the state authority LKN.SH, the tidal-independent basin admits coasters up to about 4.20 m draft, with part of the quay ISPS-certified for cargo calls. Throughput runs near 222,000 tonnes a year, dominated by agricultural produce and animal feed rather than containers, which Husum does not handle in liner service. Ship-repair yards, coastal fisheries and ship brokers round out the maritime cluster around the basin. Together with Büsum and Brunsbüttel, the port forms an offshore-wind cooperative and handles project, heavy-lift and breakbulk consignments. Shippers needing container or intercontinental connections route via Brunsbüttel, Brake or Hamburg, all within easy road and rail reach of the Husum hinterland.
