About This Seaport
At 33.8 million tonnes a year, Huelva ranks fifth among Spanish ports and second in Andalusia behind Algeciras — but its real distinction is liquid bulk, where it leads the country for chemical liquid traffic. More than a quarter of the port estate is given over to the petrochemical sector, set around the Odiel and Tinto estuary. Liquids and chemicals dominate at roughly 26 million tonnes, alongside copper cathodes from the neighbouring Atlantic Copper smelter (around 285,000 tonnes of cathodes a year), plus phosphates, fertilisers and agricultural goods; container volumes, near 70,000 TEU, remain a sideline. Atlantic Copper has proposed its own raw-materials import terminal at the Ingeniero Juan Gonzalo dock, covering about 61,000 m². Dedicated terminals for liquid and dry bulk, minerals and general cargo run year-round without significant congestion. Road and rail tie the port into Seville and the wider industrial south. For pure container shipments, Algeciras or Seville are the more logical gateways.
