About This Seaport
With a Deep Water Dock able to take vessels up to about 800 feet (240 m) alongside, Homer (US HOM) handles cruise calls, fuel and project or supply cargo for the lower Kenai Peninsula and communities across Cook Inlet. Commercially, though, the harbour is driven by fishing – halibut and salmon – supported by an ice plant and dedicated fish dock on the Homer Spit. There is no container liner service; containerised freight for Alaska moves through the Port of Alaska in Anchorage. The Sterling Highway links the town to Anchorage by road, while a state ferry terminal connects it to other Alaskan ports. For forwarders, Homer suits project, bulk-liquid and fisheries cargo rather than scheduled box traffic.
