About This Seaport
Port Vysotsky, Lukoil and Novatek are the names that matter at Vysotsk (RU VYS), an energy and bulk port on Vysotsky Island in the Gulf of Finland, about 50 nm west of St Petersburg. Port Vysotsky has run the coal terminal since 2003, shipping mainly Kuzbass thermal coal; Lukoil operates a petroleum-products terminal; and since 2019 a Novatek plant has exported LNG, now at roughly 1.5 million tonnes a year. The port handles no containers or general cargo – its function is purely energy and dry bulk. Channel and quay depths around 7.9 m cap vessel size, while hinterland links run by rail and road toward Vyborg and St Petersburg. Note that since 2022 EU sanctions have sharply reshaped coal and some energy exports to Western Europe, redirecting volumes to other markets. For containers and general freight, St Petersburg and Ust-Luga are the relevant alternatives, with Primorsk handling crude oil.
