About This Seaport
The UN/LOCODE US PUP marks Dupont, an anchorage about five miles south of Juneau named after the DuPont Powder Company, which once landed explosives here for the Alaska-Juneau gold mine — kept clear of the town because of the blast risk. Abandoned since the 1940s, the dock is crumbling and effectively inaccessible from land, with no commercial cargo or container capability. Shippers serving the Juneau area use the city's own berths and the Auke Bay cargo facilities instead.
