About This Seaport
Operated by Mexico's state oil company Pemex, Cayo Arcas Terminal is an offshore crude-oil export installation in the Gulf of Mexico, roughly 190 km off the Campeche coast. Rather than quays and sheds, it comprises two single-point mooring (SPM) buoys, a fixed loading arm and a floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit. The terminal loads mainly heavy Maya crude and can accommodate large tankers of up to about 290,000 DWT, handling on the order of 300 vessel calls each year. It is among Mexico's most important oil-export points, yet it processes no containers, breakbulk or RoRo traffic whatsoever. Stabilised crude arrives by pipeline to the offshore berths for direct tanker loading. Shippers needing container or general-cargo facilities use Veracruz or Altamira, while other crude grades move through Dos Bocas and Coatzacoalcos.
