About This Seaport
Once a shipping point for jerked beef, cotton, carnauba wax and coffee, Camocim on Ceará's north coast has long since faded as a commercial cargo gateway. Today the harbour is Ceará's leading fishing port, combined with salt extraction, and its shallow channel of about 1.8 m admits only small craft. There is no container or international freight handling; the terminal, long run by Companhia Docas do Ceará, is set to pass to municipal control. Forwarders serving north-west Ceará rely on the deep-water port of Pecém and on Fortaleza (Mucuripe).
