About This Seaport
Operated by PetroMasila, which runs the upstream blocks of Yemen's Masila basin, the Ash Shihr terminal is the coastal outlet for the country's flagship Masila crude. It lies on the Gulf of Aden in Hadhramout governorate and is fed by a roughly 138 km, 24-inch pipeline from the central processing facility. Crude is loaded offshore through a single buoy mooring (SBM); there is no quay for containers or break-bulk. With storage of about 3.5 million barrels and a loading rate near 60,000 barrels per hour, it serves tankers bound chiefly for China. Operations hinge on Yemen's security situation and have been interrupted several times. For forwarders the terminal is tanker-only; container and general cargo routes through Mukalla or Aden.
