Between Trogir and Split — both with UNESCO-listed old towns — Split Airport (IATA: SPU, ICAO: LDSP) hugs the Bay of Kaštela. Croatia's second-largest airport counts around 3 million passengers a year, the vast majority between May and October; a new terminal opened in 2019 has eased the seasonal peaks. Croatia Airlines flies year-round, joined in summer by Lufthansa, easyJet, Eurowings, and many more — for many travellers, SPU is the gateway to the Dalmatian islands. There are no dedicated freighter flights and smaller shipments travel as belly cargo; the national cargo hub is Zagreb (IATA: ZAG, approx. 250 km).
