Tucked beneath the Tai Mo Shan range in Hong Kong's New Territories, Shek Kong Air Base (ICAO: VHSK) is operated by the People's Liberation Army garrison and remains closed to commercial aviation. The former RAF Sek Kong station has no IATA code, no scheduled flights and no cargo facilities. All air freight for the territory is handled at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) on Chek Lap Kok, roughly 20 kilometres away and the world's busiest cargo airport. Route 9 and the Tai Lam Tunnel connect the New Territories directly to HKG and the Kwai Tsing container terminals.
