RUN Airport (Roland Garros Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

30,699 tonnes of air cargo passed through Roland Garros Airport (RUN/FMEE) in 2025, up 5% year on year, with imports making up 71% of the total at 21,778 tonnes. The airport lies at Sainte-Marie, about ten kilometres east of Saint-Denis, and is the principal air gateway for the French overseas department of Réunion. Inbound volumes are dominated by food products, plants and live animals; freight moves mainly as belly cargo on long-haul services to mainland France and on regional routes to Mauritius, Madagascar and Mayotte. Additional cargo flights in 2025 were linked to relief and recovery operations after cyclones Chido in Mayotte and Garance on Réunion itself. Terminal and apron upgrades have raised design capacity to more than three million passengers and around 40,000 tonnes of cargo a year. Réunion sits inside the EU customs territory but outside the EU VAT area, and imports additionally attract octroi de mer — a cost element that also applies to consignments arriving from mainland France. Bulk and non-time-critical volumes go through Port Réunion at Le Port, roughly 25 km away, leaving air freight to perishables, spare parts and pharmaceuticals; alternatives include Pierrefonds (ZSE) in the south of the island, Mauritius (MRU) and Antananarivo (TNR).
