PZU Airport (Port Sudan New International Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Port Sudan New International (IATA: PZU, ICAO: HSPN) remains Sudan's primary air-freight gateway even after the capital's airport reopened. Sitting on the Red Sea coast about 20 km south of the city, it was for two years the country's only functioning international airport after war closed Khartoum in 2023. Khartoum resumed domestic flights in October 2025 and international service on 28 April 2026, yet PZU still anchors wartime cargo and aid logistics. A dedicated customs hangar and expanded handling, opened in February 2025, lifted capacity toward roughly one million passengers a year. Scheduled carriers — Ethiopian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, EgyptAir, Badr Airlines and Tarco — provide belly capacity, and Qatar Airways resumed thrice-weekly service via Doha on 2 July 2026. The airport's immediate link to Port Sudan harbour, the country's principal seaport, offers forwarders a rare sea-air handover for humanitarian and commercial freight. Security remains a concern: drone strikes in May 2025, including one on the fuel depot, briefly halted operations. For cargo into Sudan, PZU is the most reliable air entry, best paired with the adjacent seaport for heavier consignments.
