A single 1,860-metre asphalt runway and a daily rotation to Havana define the role of Orestes Acosta Airport (IATA: MOA), the regional gateway for the mining town of Moa in Holguín province. Passenger service and the belly capacity beneath it cover the airport's freight footprint; there is no freighter operation and no dedicated cargo terminal here. The nickel and cobalt mined nearby leave Cuba by sea through Puerto Moa rather than by air. Forwarders handling genuine air cargo for eastern Cuba route their shipments through José Martí International (HAV) in Havana. For travellers, MOA is mainly the arrival point for visitors and mine personnel heading into the rugged Holguín highlands.
