Set on the narrow Varadero peninsula near Santa Marta, Kawama Airport (VRO) sits in the shadow of the much larger Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport (VRA) a short distance away. It is a small general-aviation strip used for sightseeing and light aircraft rather than scheduled or cargo flights. Any air freight for the area is handled at VRA or routed through Havana's Aerovaradero terminal. The beach resorts nearby are supplied entirely by road.
