VTU Airport (Hermanos Ameijeiras Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

VTU is the three-letter code behind Hermanos Ameijeiras Airport (ICAO MUVT) at Las Tunas in eastern Cuba, a thinly served regional field with no cargo terminal and no scheduled freighter traffic. Service consists of occasional domestic and charter flights, mostly to Havana, and Cubana's domestic network has been weakened for years by fuel and fleet shortages, leaving little belly capacity even when flights operate. Cuban air freight is concentrated in Havana, where the state handler Aerovaradero S.A. runs the cargo terminal at José Martí International (HAV) and consignments move inland by road from there. For a consignee in Las Tunas that means roughly 660 road kilometres of onward trucking from Havana, or routing through the closer alternates Frank País in Holguín (HOG, some 70 kilometres to the northeast) and Ignacio Agramonte in Camagüey (CMW, about 130 kilometres to the west), both served by international flights and therefore offering belly capacity. Customs rests with the Aduana General de la República, and commercial imports are channelled through state foreign-trade entities while private direct imports are tightly restricted, a point first-time shippers regularly underestimate. Heavy or high-volume consignments normally travel by sea through the container port of Mariel near Havana, again with a road leg east. No cargo tonnage is published for VTU, and any dedicated cargo capability at this airport is unconfirmed.
